A daughter's search for her father, told on a Greek island in the songs of ABBA.
Sophie Sheridan is twenty years old, getting married tomorrow, and has never known who her father is. Going through her mother's things, she finds an old diary from the summer before she was born — and three names in it.
So she does something she cannot take back. She writes to all three, signs her mother's name, and invites them to the wedding. Sam, Bill and Harry arrive on the island expecting a reunion with the woman they each remember, none of them knowing about the other two.
Donna — who runs the taverna, who has raised Sophie alone, and who has spent twenty years not talking about that summer — has no idea any of them are coming. Her old bandmates Tanya and Rosie do arrive as planned, ready to be Donna and the Dynamos one more time, and walk straight into the middle of it.
It's funny, it's warm, it turns unexpectedly moving somewhere around the second act — and the songs are the ones the whole room already knows.
